House in a period building

Some houses welcome and draw us in by their sheer size.
Others undergo transformations that leave their true essence unchanged. This was the central theme when renovating and creating this house, to live in a setting of pre-existence and presence that was to remain unaltered. The lounge enables the full height of the window to be revealed, and lets the architecture express its previous past as an arcade. The understated cement staircase leading to the study mirrors the colour of the walls.
The kitchen is designed around a ceiling and columns that can be very current. The upper floors contain an evening area, bedrooms, toilets and dressing rooms.  The old stone staircase leads to the upper floors and has a small guest bathroom underneath.
Inspiration was drawn from an ancient fountain and bucket, underlining the dimensions.
